Plant City, Florida

Plant City, Florida was named in commemoration of Henry B. Plant and his railroad, which significantly boosted the economy of this primarily agricultural community. Henry B. Plant owned the Plant System of railroads, which became part of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. Plant City, FL was incorporated in 1885.

Located in Hillsborough County, FL, on Interstate 4, Plant City's 22 square miles is approximately midway between Brandon and Lakeland Florida. At the hub of eastern Hillsborough County, Plant City is only 24 miles east of the beaches of Tampa Bay. Interstate 4 or U.S. Highway 92  gives the traveler quick access to Plant City's streets and its vibrant and historical community.

Plant City, Florida, population 31,727, is serviced by railroad lines from both the CSX S line (north-south) and the CSX A line (east-west). The Plant City Municipal Airport, which is three miles from the city’s Historic Downtown Business District, provides service for private plane owners, flight lessons and plane rentals.

A mild subtropical climate, fertile soil and a good transportation infrastructure is the perfect recipe for agricultural prosperity in Plant City, FL. You will find aromatic citrus groves and a picturesque quilt of pasturelands dotting the landscape. As the winter strawberry capital of the world, Plant City proudly hosts the annual Florida Strawberry Festival, which is attended by people from all over the United States as well as many from around the world.

The historic small town atmosphere of Plant City, Florida is reinforced with 158 acres of public parks, playgrounds, athletic fields and courts, recreation centers, a 6,700-seat softball stadium  (home of the International Softball Federation), and six miles of recreational trails. Dinosaur World is an outdoor park and educational center that features 150 life-size dinosaurs.

Plant City's theme: “Embracing the Future, While Preserving the Past” is consistent with the inclusion of many local buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Bing Rooming House has a unique history, in that it served as the hub of business activity for the African American community. The Downtown Plant City Commercial District has 38 buildings of historical interest in the Masonry Vernacular, Beaux-Arts and Mediterranean Revival styles. The Downtown Plant City Historic Residential District features Colonial Revival architectural style buildings.

Plant City is located within Hillsborough County, Florida which is home to the prestigious MacDill AFB, which boasts "America's Most Responsive, Reliable and Renowned Mobility Wing the 6th AMW." The 6th AMW is a 3,000-person force capable of rapidly projecting air refueling power anywhere in the world.  America’s premier mobility team provides world-class air refueling, responsive airlift, and airbase support to Headquarters U.S. Central Command, Headquarters U.S. Special Operations Command, and 51 other mission partners that call MacDill home.

Plant City, FL is served by the judges and staff of the 13th Judicial Circuit which is comprised entirely of Hillsborough County, Florida. The largest and busiest division within the 13th Judicial Circuit is that of Family Law. The Hillsborough County Family Law division handles many types of cases under its area of responsibility, ranging from name changes and adoption, paternity, child support and custody, domestic violence, divorce and more.  Being a military area, the Hillsborough County Family Law also deals with the special circumstances surrounding divorce for active and retired military personnel.
